How to use the Vanilla talent calculator
- Pick your class from the row of class buttons. Each class has its own page with its full talent list.
- Click a talent to add a point. Right-click or Shift-click removes one. On a phone, tap a talent to read it and use the + and − buttons.
- Watch the summary bar: it shows your points per tree (for example 31 / 20 / 0), points left out of 51 and the level the build needs.
- Copy build link to save or share the build. Anyone who opens the link sees exactly your points. Copy as text gives a short list for forums or Discord.
Talent rules in Classic WoW
You get your first talent point at level 10 and one more every level, which means 51 points at level 60. Each class has three trees of 7 tiers. To open a tier you need 5 points in that tree for every tier above it: 5 points for tier 2, 10 for tier 3, and 30 for the bottom tier, which holds the tree's 31-point talent.
Some talents also need another talent maxed first; the calculator draws an arrow between them, and the arrow lights up once the requirement is met. Removing points follows the same rules as the game: you can't take a point back if a deeper talent depends on it.
The calculator holds all 9 classes, 432 talents and 1,355 talent ranks of Classic WoW.
Vanilla WoW talents in patch 1.12
In the original game every tree has 7 tiers, and its deepest talent sits in tier 7 behind 30 points in the tree: the famous 31-point talents such as Mortal Strike, Shadowform, Moonkin Form, Adrenaline Rush and Holy Shield. With 51 points at level 60 you can take one of them and still spend 20 points elsewhere, which is where hybrid builds like 31/20/0 come from.
Talents changed a lot between patch 1.0 and 1.12. This vanilla WoW talent calculator uses the final 1.12 trees, which WoW Classic and Classic Era use. Paladins and shamans are included even though, in vanilla, each was available to only one faction.

Tips for planning a build
- Decide on one main tree. With 51 points you can reach only one 31-point talent, leaving 20 points for everything else.
- Look at the cheap tiers of other trees. The first two tiers often hold flat bonuses that are worth more than the last few points of a deep tree.
- Check hit and other caps. Talents that add hit chance lower the hit rating you need from gear. Our hit cap calculator takes them into account.
- Plan for levelling too. The required level shows when a build is complete. A build with 31 points in one tree is ready at level 40.
- Respecs cost gold. The first reset is 1 gold, then 5, then 10 and up to 50 gold, so it pays to plan a levelling build and an end-game build before you start.
