Wrath (WotLK) Arena Point Calculator

Find out how many arena points your team rating earns each week in Wrath of the Lich King. Wrath kept the TBC formula, raised the point cap to 10,000, and later paid every team under 1500 as if it were rated 1500.

How arena points are calculated

Every week, at the weekly reset, each arena team that played enough games earns points based on its team rating. From patch 2.2 onward and all through Wrath of the Lich King the formula is the same:

Rating 1500 or lower: points = 0.22 × rating + 14
Rating above 1500: points = 1511.26 ÷ (1 + 1639.28 × e−0.00412 × rating)

That gives the points for a 5v5 team. A 3v3 team gets 88% of it and a 2v2 team 76%, rounded down. The curve rises fastest between about 1600 and 2100 rating and flattens out above 2400, where the formula can never go past 1,511 points for 5v5.

Wrath made one change for lower-rated teams: later in the expansion, every team below 1500 earns the same points as a 1500 team. The calculator has this switched on; untick it to see the original amounts.

Who gets points

  • 10 games a week. Your team must play at least 10 rated games in the week.
  • 30% participation. You personally must have played in at least 30% of your team's games that week.
  • Best team only. If you are on a 2v2, a 3v3 and a 5v5 team, you get the points of whichever pays the most, not all three.
  • Cap of 10,000. You can't hold more than 10,000 arena points. Anything over the cap is lost, so spend points before you get close.

Example

A 3v3 team at 1800 rating earns 669 points a week. If you need 3,000 points and have none, that is 5 weeks. Push the same team to 2000 rating and it earns 928 a week, which cuts the wait to 4 weeks.

Tips

  • 5v5 pays the most per rating point, but it is harder to find five players. Many players keep a 5v5 team just for points.
  • Play your 10 games early in the week so you can't miss the minimum.
  • Some gear also needs a personal rating, which is separate from the points you earn. Check the item before you save for it.
  • Honor and arena points are different currencies. For the old honor rank system see our vanilla calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How are arena points calculated in Wrath?
Wrath uses the same formula as The Burning Crusade: 0.22 × rating + 14 up to 1500, and 1511.26 / (1 + 1639.28 × e^(−0.00412 × rating)) above 1500, then 88% of that for 3v3 and 76% for 2v2.
Do teams under 1500 rating get fewer points in WotLK?
Not after the change made during Wrath: teams below 1500 earn the same points as a 1500 team. Turn the “rated as 1500” option off to see the original amounts.
What is the arena point cap in Wrath of the Lich King?
10,000 arena points. Anything above that is lost.
How many games do I need to play?
At least 10 games for your team that week, and you must play in at least 30% of the team's games.
How many points is 2000 rating worth?
At 2000 rating a 5v5 team gets 1,054 points a week, a 3v3 team 928 and a 2v2 team 801.
