How to use the WotLK talent calculator

  1. Pick your class from the row of class buttons. Each class has its own page with its full talent list.
  2. Click a talent to add a point. Right-click or Shift-click removes one. On a phone, tap a talent to read it and use the + and − buttons.
  3. Watch the summary bar: it shows your points per tree (for example 51 / 20 / 0), points left out of 71 and the level the build needs.
  4. Copy build link to save or share the build. Anyone who opens the link sees exactly your points. Copy as text gives a short list for forums or Discord.

Talent rules in Wrath of the Lich King

You get your first talent point at level 10 and one more every level, which means 71 points at level 80. Each class has three trees of 11 tiers. To open a tier you need 5 points in that tree for every tier above it: 5 points for tier 2, 10 for tier 3, and 50 for the bottom tier, which holds the tree's 51-point talent.

Some talents also need another talent maxed first; the calculator draws an arrow between them, and the arrow lights up once the requirement is met. Removing points follows the same rules as the game: you can't take a point back if a deeper talent depends on it.

The calculator holds all 10 classes, 829 talents and 2,242 talent ranks of Wrath of the Lich King.

Lich King talents: what's different in Wrath

Wrath of the Lich King raised the level cap to 80, so a character has 71 talent points, and each tree gained two more tiers. The bottom tier, tier 11, holds a 51-point talent such as Bladestorm, Divine Storm, Chimera Shot, Penance, Living Bomb, Haunt or Wild Growth.

Wrath also added the Death Knight, the first hero class, with the Blood, Frost and Unholy trees, and patch 3.1 introduced Dual Talent Specialization, which lets you keep two talent builds and swap between them out of combat. Plan both specs here and keep the two links.

The trees were changed many times during the expansion. This Lich King talent calculator uses the final 3.3.5 trees, the version WotLK Classic ended on. If you searched for a "Wrath talent calculator", this is the same thing: Wrath, WotLK and Lich King all mean the same expansion.

Tips for planning a build

  • Decide on one main tree. With 71 points you can reach only one 51-point talent, leaving 20 points for everything else.
  • Look at the cheap tiers of other trees. The first two tiers often hold flat bonuses that are worth more than the last few points of a deep tree.
  • Check hit and other caps. Talents that add hit chance lower the hit rating you need from gear. Our hit cap calculator takes them into account.
  • Plan for levelling too. The required level shows when a build is complete. A build with 51 points in one tree is ready at level 60.
  • Use the 20 spare points well. After a 51-point talent you have 20 points left, enough to reach tier 5 of a second tree.

Frequently asked questions

How many talent points do you get in Wrath of the Lich King?
A level 80 character has 71 talent points: one per level from 10 to 80. That is enough for the 51-point talent at the bottom of a tree plus 20 more points.
Is the Lich King talent calculator the same as a Wrath talent calculator?
Yes. Wrath of the Lich King (WotLK, or just “Wrath”) is the expansion, and the Lich King is its villain, so players search for both names. This page covers the final Wrath patch, 3.3.5, used by WotLK Classic.
What are the 51-point talents in WotLK?
Wrath added a new bottom tier to every tree. Its talent needs 50 points in that tree, for example Bladestorm for Arms warriors, Dancing Rune Weapon for Blood death knights and Living Bomb for Fire mages.
Does this calculator include Death Knights?
Yes. Death Knights have Blood, Frost and Unholy trees like any other class. They start at level 55 and catch up on talent points through their starting quests, so by level 80 they have the same 71 points.
Does this include dual specialization and glyphs?
Dual Talent Specialization, added in patch 3.1, lets you keep two builds and switch between them. Plan each one here and save both links. Glyphs are not part of this calculator.
How do I share my Wrath talent build?
Click “Copy build link”. The link contains your talent points, so it opens the exact same build for anyone.
